Changing your position and becoming enlightened are two very
different things.
Barack Obama has accused John McCain of changing his opinion
on drilling for oil on US land. While I understand the way the political games
are played, I think Obama would be well advised to either steer clear of the
oil issue or to embrace the renewed call for oil exploration on our soil.
Accusing someone of doing a flip flop on an issue that is
having a negative impact on every American is pretty damn stupid.
When oil is relatively inexpensive, supplies ample, and the
price at the pump is low you can continue to support the ban on drilling. But,
when the price surges upward and is hurting the working folks it is a responsible
move to re-evaluate your position and adjust it to meet the current and future
needs.
It is a bold move to look at a situation and say “that was
then, this is now”. This is the type of leadership I expect in a President.
Contrast this now with Obama’s position, When asked about
high gas prices he responded by saying he would have rather the increase to
have been over a longer period of time to give people a chance to adjust
better.
So both men have made their energy policy known.
McCain has decided we must become energy independent by
tapping our own resources.
Obama doesn’t have a problem with you paying more; he just
wants to stretch it out over a longer period of time.
Which sounds Presidential and which sounds idiotic?
Remember folks, we get the government we deserve. Think
about that when you treat voting like it’s no more than a sporting event.
